For parents and carers who love the idea of an elf tradition without a nightly scene to plan. Each day brings another puzzle, another argument between the elves and one more step towards the Christmas-morning reveal.

How it works

  1. Print the kit and cut out the cards. Keep the parent answers out of sight.
  2. Choose your way to play: hand over one card each day, or prepare your own envelopes numbered 1–24 before December begins and give the whole stack on day 1.
  3. On 1 December, give your child the comic, map and first card. Each day, they solve a puzzle and cross its answer off the map.
  4. By 24 December, only one place remains on the map. After bedtime on Christmas Eve, put your chosen gift there. Your child finds it on Christmas morning.

Optional: give a chocolate coin or small treat with each card, or place one inside its envelope.

Missed a day? Solve two the next day. The cards can be completed in any order.

The puzzles

From simple riddles to codes and wordplay, with trickier logic twists along the way. There are word searches, picture puzzles, mirror writing, map directions and a cut-and-reassemble challenge, all accompanied by the elves’ cheeky exchanges.

Hints are included for every card, so a grown-up can offer a nudge when needed. Difficulty is mixed throughout the countdown.

The map

This is the elves’ fictional house, so your home does not need to match its rooms. Children cross places off the map; they do not need to search those locations around your home. The final hiding place is the wardrobe/closet in the child’s bedroom, where you will hide the gift. Please check you have a suitable, safely accessible wardrobe/closet before buying.

Safety first

A grown-up should supervise, help with scissors and be available for harder puzzles. Choose an age-appropriate gift and a safe, accessible hiding place. Appliances and cupboards shown on the map are puzzle locations; children do not need to search them during the countdown.

I’m Estelle, a mum in London. Gift Hunt Co. grew from the birthday hunts I wrote for my own boys, making the anticipation before their gifts a family tradition. This Christmas mission brings that same excitement to December.
